DU Zone A 1Family Day

24.10.09

DU Zone A 1FAMILY Day was held on 24.10.09 at the Dewan Serbaguna MBPJ.

The Dewan entrance and interior was decorated with themes celebrating recent Malaysian festivals - Merdeka, Hari Raya, Lantern (Moon Cake) Festival and Deepavali.

The event was attended by residents from 80 households including children. In all, we had more than 250 people in attendance. The Family Day was opened by our ADUN, YB Dr Cheah Wing Yin. The Damansara Police Station also sent their representatives. Representatives from DUROA our parent body as well as neighbouring residents associations were also present.

Residents started arriving before 2.00 pm and were registered under 4 sub-zones. This was done to allow them to get to know each other and to share their views on what we need to do within our DU Zone A community. Children registered themselves for the various children programs – face painting, colouring/ drawing competitions as well as traditional and contemporary games.

The 1Family Day kicked off with the children colouring and drawing competitions.

Next the residents were entertained with performances by our own local talented Melanie Lim followed by Jean Philip Chen who performed the “Che Ling” also known as Chinese Yo-Yo showing increasing degrees of skills. Dashwin Kaur, another talented performer also performed a spirited Indian Dance. At the same time one of our residents, Puan Aira from Road 13, did free ‘face painting’ for the children. Many children had their faces excitedly painted by Puan Aira.

The program continued with a speech by our Zone A Chairman, Amajit Singh, followed by a short briefing by the Police Representative.

Our ADUN, Dr Cheah then gave a speech and pledge a donation of another RM2,500 to assist us with our security program. He then launched the CCTV project by activating a projection of the video recording of what the CCTV cameras were capturing at the BG2 entrance. Dr. Cheah also took a walk-about around the field next to the Dewan to get a first hand look at conditions there. Hopefully we can expect improvements to the Basketball Court!

The contemporary games were held at the outdoor line dancing court and the basketball. At the same time, adults in their four sub zones had group discussions on what the Zone A Committee needs to do in DU Zone A for the future.

This was followed by the traditional game events which were held in the hall due to the rain. Even the adults re-lived their childhood by enjoying the traditional games. Everybody, especially the children enjoyed the traditional games and event.

We ended with the prize giving ceremony. We were honoured to have one of our distinguished residents, Tan Sri Datuk Azman Mokhtar, to give away the prizes. We also distributed a pen-cum water pistol to the young children.

The event ended on a “watery note” with a water balloon “war” among the teenagers while the little one enjoyed theirs with the water pistol fight.

We will like to thank the following sponsors:

1. Chim Kindergarten for providing the materials and prizes for the colouring and drawing competition.

2. Nestle for bringing their Milo Truck to provide refreshing drinks. Adults too enjoyed the drink as they recalled their school day experience of queuing up at the Milo truck.

3. McDonalds’ for providing meal packages of burger with nugget and a drink, T-shirts for young kids, paper cut-out model of Doraemon and a pen-cum-water pistol.

Finally we will like to thank the residents for supporting us. We also received invaluable assistance from some of the teenagers for arranging & removing the chairs, putting up and removing posters, helping in the registration process and finally for cleaning up the Dewan after the event.

The attached photos capture part of the spirit of the event but if you missed it, you should have been there to really see the true spirit of the 1FAMILY spirit amongst DU Zone A residents. If you missed this event due to various reasons, please come and join us when we have another such event. See you then. Be part of the DU Zone A family!
